Ikebana Flower Arranging - Celebrating and honoring Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Ikebana Flower Arranging - Celebrating and honoring Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month In-Person

Would you like to learn how to arrange flowers from your garden or your local store? Did you see a unique branch that blew down or a broken flower you would like to bring home and use in an arrangement? “How to get started.” Come see Ikebana International’s teachers from different ikebana schools show you how. Ikebana uses few materials, in a variety of containers, all yielding a pleasing asymmetric form.

Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arranging. Ikebana International is a non-profit cultural organization whose objective is to stimulate and perpetuate the study of ikebana and related arts throughout the world. There are about 160 chapters in 50 countries. We are fortunate to have one in Rochester now for over 60 years.

The Rochester Chapter #53 meets monthly on the 3rd Thursday of the month. We take a rest the months of December and January but start live on Zoom for our monthly meetings in February until April when we again meet in person at the First Baptist Church, Hubbell Hall, 175 Allens Creek Rd, Rochester, NY 14618. Our meetings start at 9:45AM with a hands-on ikebana workshop, then enjoy fellowship with your own brown-bag lunch and have a short cultural program following lunch.

Our motto is “Friendship through Flowers.”

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, which celebrates the cultures, traditions, and histories of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States.

This program is co-sponsored by the Irondequoit Public Library and the Town of Irondequoit.

The Irondequoit Public Library is committed to creating inclusive and accessible events. To request a reasonable accommodation or discuss your needs, please contact one of our Inclusion Coordinators or call the library at 585-336-6060.
