Town & Library DEI Book Discussion Series: Disability Visibility by Alice Wong

Town & Library DEI Book Discussion Series: Disability Visibility by Alice Wong In-Person

Join Irondequoit Town Supervisor Andraé Evans and the Irondequoit Public Library for a Disability pride Month book discussion. On Wednesday, July 31 we will host a facilitated book discussion on Disability Visibility by Alice Wong.

Disability Visibility is a collection of first-person writing on the joys and challenges of the modern disability experience. According to the last census, one in five people in the United States lives with a disability. Some are visible, some are hidden - but all are underrepresented in media and popular culture. Activist Alice Wong brings together an urgent, galvanizing collection of personal essays by contemporary disabled writers that celebrates and documents disability culture in the now. It looks to the future and past with hope and love.

Copies of Disability Visibility are available at the checkout desk at Irondequoit Public Library or can be reserved by calling (585) 336-6060 during open library hours. Disability Visibility is available as an ebook or downloadable audiobook through the library’s OverDrive system. A plain language adaptation of the book, endorsed by the author, is available to download here.

Registration required.
