The Fire This Time: James Baldwin and Lessons for This Age with Dr. Jeffrey Q. McCune, Jr. In-Person
This presentation takes a close look at James Baldwin’s 1963 work The Fire Next Time, as a message for our contemporary world and its wrestle with issues of anti-blackness and the “problem” of race. Dr. Jeffrey Q. McCune, Jr. forges a conversation with some of the key passages in Baldwin's text, offering a conversation with, and elaboration on, some of the most critical ideas shared in this work.
Dr. McCune is the lead architect and Founding Chair of the Department of Black Studies at the University of Rochester. He is also the Frederick Douglass Professor of African American Literature and Culture at the University of Rochester.
