Our Voices Documentary/Panel Discussion of "This is My Grandmother: Bev & Carol" In-Person
Join Irondequoit Public Library, the Town of Irondequoit, and the filmmakers from the Our Voices Project for a screening of This is My Grandmother: Bev & Carol followed by a panel discussion.
This is My Grandmother: Bev & Carol chronicles the stories of two Indigenous families, one from the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin and one from the Tuscarora Nation. These stories, told across three generations, cover growing up both on and outside of the reservation; traditions and cultural norms; and the lack of Indigenous history in classrooms.
Join us for a talkback immediately following the film featuring educators, Catherine Shutt, Oneida Nation of Wisconsin, and Trish Corcoran, Tonawanda Onödowága, Bear Clan, who will share approaches to teaching Indigenous history and culture.
Learn how you can support Indigenous educators and creatives as guests from the Indigenous Peoples Day Committee Indigenous Peoples' Day | Rochester NY (indigenouspeoplesdayrocny.org) and Native Made 2024 Native Made Market | Rochester NY | Native Made (nativemadehq.com) will be available to promote activities and celebrations planned for Indigenous Peoples Day (October 14, 2024) and Native Made Market (November 30, 2024).
The film Running time: 15 minutes.
