IPL Genealogy Group - Using Local Government Records for Local and Family History with David F. Lowry, New York State Archives In-Person / Online

New York State has over 4,400 local governments and each creates records. Many of these records prove valuable for family history research. This session will provide an overview of New York State local government structure, review local government records useful for family history research, and provide tips on the best way to access these records.  

David F. Lowry, CRM is an Archives and Records Management Specialist at the New York State Archives where he manages the Archives’ Local Government Advisory Services Unit. He has almost 30 years of experience working with local government records. Dave was also Adjunct Professor at the University of Albany, SUNY where he taught the Fundamentals of Records Management. He also has extensive experience in genealogical research, and his work has been published in the New England Historic Genealogical Register.   

Participants have the choice of viewing this program in person at the Irondequoit Public Library or at home via livestream using Zoom. Registration required with an email address. Participants will receive an email with the log-in information for Zoom.
